Welcome to the World Scout Moot 2017 Blog!
Hi, I’m Adam, and welcome to my blog about the 15th World Scout Moot in Iceland this summer.
So what is a World Scout Moot?
The World Scout Moot is an official event of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), hosted and organized by the Icelandic Boy and Girl Scout Association, for young people aged between 18 and 25 inclusive. The 15th World Scout Moot will be held in Iceland between 25th July and 2nd August.
Why Moot?
As an educational event of WOSM, the objectives of the Moot are for the participants to:
- Develop their understanding and experience of belonging to a world wide movement of Scouts.
- Be challenged by new perspectives of culture, origin, ideas, behaviour and experience.
- Experience the influence and power of nature and the environment on everyday life.
- Be challenged to think about their lifestyle and its impact on the environment and on their individual health.
- Think about their place as world citizens and the rights and responsibilities that go with it.
What Will I Be Doing?
There are three main sections to the Moot, which you can find out more about on the website. One part is having the opportunity to work with your tribe (the group of people you’re with during Moot) at expedition centres. My tribe will be at Þingvellir National Park.
Offers program options like: mountain walking/climbing (Botnsúlur, Leggjabrjótur, Ármannsfell), hillwalking, rod fishing, learning about the oldest parliament in the world and the first settlers of Iceland, biking, land compensation and getting to know the geology and history of the place.
We’ll be doing an Icelandic full-day hike, a shorter walk, attending an adventure centre (a bit like Go Ape!), swimming in lake Mosfellsbaer, and a community project.
